Operation Shed Organization

First things first this post is by Dominic, who should be doing his homework, but can not focus!  Over the last week or so we have been really trying to down size and get organized because we are still going to be in our one bedroom apartment next year, with our new baby.  So in order to make things quite a bit easier I decided we needed some shelves in the shed.  You can see why!!

We actually only get about half our shed because the Girls dorm stores their recycling in our shed, though all of it just got brought to the recycle center so we will have our shed to ourselves until about September!

So with a few pieces of plywood, some 2x3's and a lot of 3 inch screws, I was able to make a few shelves with the help of a friend and some from the wife!

The shelves are definitely not the prettiest things ever, but they sure make our lives a whole lot more organized!

First Baby Shower

The Girls Dorm at MV surprised me with a baby shower. And I mean surprised. I had no idea! That means that like 45 girls had to keep it from me and they did an amazing job! And thanks to Heather, Dara, and Deborah it was awesome (sorry you couldn't make it Deborah! It was really great!) The girls together bought us

a bouncy seat

a diaper bag

a baby monitor
a diaper cake, bath supplies, lots and lots of clothes, a baby wipes warmer, and cute little toys!
It was wonderful, I feel so loved and forever grateful. And more than ever, after seeing all those cute clothes, I want to know whether this baby is pink or blue!

Another Baby Purchase

We found our crib. We decided on a crib from Ikea but we found this Pottery Barn one on Craigslist.
It was lightly used but for 100 bucks we got a crib that usually runs for 600. Good enough for us and better than what we would have bought new for ourselves!

Is This How a Mother Bird Feels?

When does nesting happen?
How do you know?
Currently I am in mental panic mode.
All I can think about is stuff that needs to get done.
And how afraid I am that it will not get done.
I don't know if this is nesting, or just my personality ramped up on pregnancy hormones.
When I clean I get this way, Dom has called me the cleaning monster.
I am just so extreme.
Like right now our house is a disaster.
Mainly because I slept through the entire 1st trimester.
But also because the monster hasn't kicked in for a while.
And I want to move our furniture to designate a place for baby stuff.
And the end of the school year is coming so it is super busy.
And we will find out the gender of our baby right before we will be on vacation for a month.
All I can think about is projects waiting to be done.
Projects that need to be done.
Projects that I want to do.
I am making lists at rapid speeds.
I feel bad for my husband.
I know I am going to cause him an immense amount of stress over the next two weeks.
Scratch that.
All the way through October.
As if he needs more.
He has started his masters.
He also has projects on his mind.
He also has to deal with the craziness of wrapping a school year with dorm students.
He is also planning our summer trip.
He will be working next year.
And here I am worrying.
And making lists.
Is this how a mother bird feels?
Worrying over every twig?

First Big Baby Purchase Courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa Adams

Our travel system of choice was on a serious sale when we were working on starting our registry, so we decided to just buy it.

Dom's mom and dad had given us money for a big purchase (it was probably going to end up going to a travel system or a glider...because Dom and I LOVE the gliders. We have already probably sat in them at Babies R Us and Target for an hour)
Anyway a sale led to using the money on the travel system. We had been eying this stroller up for a while and this particular model has an ipod dock and speakers! Yes not necessary, but when it ends up being cheaper than the one without it, who cares! And it is super fun! I pushed it around in the dorm for a little while the other night and we tried out the speakers, they are awesome! haha. Oh Baby, I hope you enjoy all this stuff as much as we do.

I am beginning to worry that this pregnancy is going so well that we are going to get payback after the birth.
Dear child, please be kind. We are new and don't know what we are doing.

Banyan Tree in Downtown Lahiana

Banyan trees are these crazy trees that send down roots from their branches that turn into more trunks. Think Avatar, that had to be where they got the inspiration.

Pictures couldn't really do it justice, so I took video...

Road to Hana

Here is the Road to Hana its so popular because it is filled with waterfalls and rainforest.
Although it may look like a short trip, the road is so windy that it takes 3 hours just to get to Hana.
We decided to take the back road to get back to our hotel (between Lahaina and Ka'anapali)
Even though the back road was mostly a narrow dirt road, hanging off the cliffs with signs that warn of no emergency services provided we actually preferred it to the much more popular north side. But on the North side we did see this...

and more waterfalls then we can remember. One of which empties out into O'heo Gulch or the 'Seven Sacred Pools' You can totally swim in any of the ponds that the waterfalls empty in to. Of course all is at your own risk.

If you find yourself on the Road to Hana, skip the Twin Falls(first stop on the journey) its about a half hour hike to see a waterfall that isn't even as good as some of the other ones that can be seen off the highway.

We meet an interesting character who makes beautiful shell leis. Although she had a strange obsession with Elvis and his family, all her leis had a story. The one we bought for ourselves is made out of large shells which have to be reborn by being sanded down and polished and they represent Christ. The white represents the waters of Maui and the Green, the rain forests of Maui. She may have been slightly off, but we love our keepsake.
On the backside of the road we really had some fun.
And we preferred the off road terrain. I guess we felt more like a local? Or maybe that we were discovering uncharted territory?
There is lava rock EVERYWHERE.
Open Road
We probably should have taken footage when it was a little more exciting. You know when the cliff was hanging over us, on a one car road, when we couldnt see if someone else was coming at us. But I guess documentation wasnt really un the front of our mind at that moment.

HULA!

While in Maui we went to the Old Lahaina Luau. This particular luau is said to be the most traditional and true the the Hawaiian history of the luau.

When we went in our host gave us leis.
They performed a little while we ate, but the real show was after dinner.
Oh and the view was BEAUTIFUL
Enjoy the show with us!

Finale, Even the lone white girl was pretty awesome!
