Onesie Craft Night

Since Rach and I are both pregnant we decided to have a baby craft night while the boys were out.
We raided my fabric scraps...and left quite a mess...that I am putting off cleaning up.

Sewing Station

Neither of us know the gender yet. Rach made a super cute skinny tie long sleeve onesie just in case of a boy. It was complete with button cuff links! I wish I remembered to take a picture last night.

And I have seen these Heart State onesies that I have really liked so I made some of mine own for boy or girl.

Baby Adams loves Michigan
Initials on the butt!
And Baby will be born a Californian
 CA bottom.
It was a super fun and inspiring experience. Rach introduced me to my new favorite website, pintrest. You pin stuff to your page that you want to remember or what inspires you, check mine out and follow me so that I can follow yours! And we can borrow inspiration.

Weekend Projects, the first

Okay, not just weekends. Pretty much whenever I am not working (which is kind of a lot these days) I devote a serious part of my time to ongoing projects. Which has also turned me a little into a recluse, but it is kinda cozy and sort of not in my nature, so its fun to change things up.

One project that has been forever on my mind was my jewelry box. It was literally a BOX with all my junk thrown in it. I would basically wear the same stuff every day because the rest was a tangled mess.

Well anyway, I was hiking with my friend Heather, she may be my newest friend but we have made up for time lost. And we found these amazing Manzanita branches that had fallen off the tree during the storms the days previous. So we hiked back to her car with our new found treasures, which came in handy when we ran into a bobcat...just kidding. No really, we heard it growling at us from the thicket, that little branch somehow made me feel safer. Thank you branch.

Anyway and my dad and Dom helped turn it into the jewelry stand of my dreams!
Isn't it lovely? turned out better than I imagined!

In this picture you can kind of see how beautiful Manzanita wood is. It is an awesome shade of deep red.
And it is so wonderful to look over it all, so much of my jewelry has been gifts so now I have a daily reminder of those people.
I love that it makes all my jewelry, even the $1 ones feel like art pieces.
And I can see EVERYTHING at once and it glitters and shines and makes me smile and the river stones kind of make all my pins, brooches, and family jewelry look like the were just found there.
I seriously love these flea market find earrings
And this dish was perfecto for this project. Now Heather and I are going to do the same with her branch.    Let me know if you want to know how to make it!

One reason why I love Target so much. These only set me back 12 bucks! Oh Target how I heart thee.

Black Friday Favorite Loot

We braved the Black Friday crowds. We started at 11 pm on Thursday night because that is when everything started opening. For two reasons, well three.

1. Social Observation

2. Great Deals on things we need and some we don't

3. and to feel like we are interesting and exciting people that actually do things (we didn't realize this until we were halfway through the night of no sleep, so that could be the no sleep talking)

On Part One: We noticed a lot of truly ridiculous people. Out of control. Running with carts and knocking you over, almost. Then there were an abnormal number of international people, we would estimate 85 percent of the people at the outlets (our first stop) were international. Asian, everywhere but Tommy Hilfiger, there they were all European. And although we thought many people were ridiculous (like the 200 plus people waiting in a line outside of Juicy Couture in 30 degree weather) we had to admit we were one of them, hard pill to swallow but it is good to learn about yourself.

On Part Two: We bought a much needed vacuum, some more towels, a few Christmas presents. All good useful purchases. Then I spied a $5 dollar rack with these beautiful babies.

Although I may not have needed them, I have had my eyes open for a pair of black heeled boots with a bit of a gun metal, " I am tough" look. And at 5 bucks, who can complain???

And although we were not among the crazies that waited outside of Target for it to open, Dom somehow managed to wrangle one of only 4 of these in the store for only 7.99!

On Part Three: It was rather an exhilerating and fun experience, kinda a stupid American thing to do. But it was fun spending time together, people watching and catching some deals.

Importance of Being Yourself

Sometimes I think that being yourself can be overrated and underrated at the same time.

God created us all different. Each with incredible talents. Each with weaknesses that can feel crippling. We are all unique in what we have to offer and unique in what we need. We must not use our strengths to hurt others, instead to build up. We also should not focus so on our weaknesses that we are dragging others down with us.

I feel an incredible draw within myself to remain unique, as I am sure many others do as well. I am not sure why I feel this way. But I do. I just want to be me, in a world where everyone else is just themselves. In a sense all of us a different pigment in a kaleidoscope world.

I love the people that have tattoos. I love the people that wear suits and ties everyday. I love the people who are consistent, solid. I love the people that are eclectic, always changing. I love the people who are defined by what the do professionally. I love that people that live for the weekend. I love the artists and the economists. I love the dreamers and the doers.

I feel giddy with delight at the thought of all of us mulling about in a world where there are tasks for us all. That there are places where we can be used just as we are and that there are some places that we will never fit in.

Today I took another step (albeit tiny and insignificant to anyone else) into the unknown world of just being myself. It was out of necessity that I started the task but it was out of desire to just be who I wanted to be that I finished it.

I had split ends; evil hair monsters that call for change. They screamed out to me everyday telling me that they were winning. Little bits of hair broke away every time I brushed it. It was awful and yet I did nothing.
Finally out of frustration and the coming trips to Vegas and Chicago that I made the appointment with Shawna, the secret weapon, just for a cut.
But as I was on the call, something beckoned within me for something more. This summer I had tried to get purple highlights before our trip, but failed. This time (although barred by the dress code at work) I stepped forward again, black instead of purple. And it is great. I feel myself and I don't care if anyone else hates it and really I don't care if anyone loves it. For now this is what makes me feel a little more like me.

Dear friends step forward. Do whatever it is that makes you feel like you. Whether it is painting your car pink, learning a new language, painting, filming, laughing. Whatever. Big or small. Just go do it. Make our kaleidoscope brilliant with uniqueness. I love your colors!

Commitment of a Procrastinator

Okay. Since Today is October 13, 2010 and my last post was December 22, 2008 I think that it is safe to say that I have failed this whole blogging thing. So I am starting over, clean slate. I am beginning this again as nothing more than a documentation of our lives for us to be able to look back on and remember and also since I am TERRIBLE on the phone, to share our lives with those we love. So Adams Family web journalling is beginning. I may be slow at first. But mark my words. I will get the hang of this.

So what do procrastinators love? Immediate follow through (usually followed by a long and empty pause...but lets ignore that and believe in me anyway)

RIght now more than anything I love my Vegetable Garden. It works harder than I do.

Meet Lavender, she is the most faithful and strongest of the bunch.

Nothing like straight from the vine tomatoes (although I know my husband would beg to differ, but he isn't here)

And I have waited oh so long to see these beautiful babies!

(I gave up on the late natural light and switched to flash)

Then as I was snapping pictures I little friend showed up.

I guess he was hungry.

But not too fond of having his photo taken.

Lastly there is the pumpkin, the crown of the year. He came from France making him that much more exciting. He was an only child, accidentally cut off in his prime. So I cried.

And then I bought a kickin' pair of shoes to ease the pain.

Thank you, Pumpkin
