Its so delicious and if you have allergies, local honey can work wonders.

Eureka! Sandwich Bread!

So I have been looking for the perfect basic sliced bread recipe for a while. Months.

I was pouring over Bernard Clayton's 724 page bruiser, New Complete Book of Breads. With no real luck. Some okay breads but not what I was looking for.

But finally a light bulb went off. What is a million times more comprehensive than this book?

The World Wide Web.

It took me about five minutes to figure out that sliced bread was not the proper term for what I was looking for, it only really returned images of people's favorite grocery store brands.

I tried to think of a synonym comparable to what I was looking for.

What do you do with sliced bread? Make SANDWICHES!

A quick search brought me to A Year in Bread.

Where they shared a recipe for what the called Susan's Farmhouse White.

Thank You Susan! Your bread is just the ticket.

Next expedition Whole Wheat!

Movie Review: King Corn

As I have stated already. I love Netflix. I was resistant at first. I loved the experience of walking into blockbuster and browsing through the selection. Old and new. I feel that carries the same nostalgia for me as other older folks that talk about the nickel candy shops.

But Netflix has presented a whole new world to me. A world full of documentaries that I never would have thought I would watch. But Netflix instant play brings the world to my fingertips. I can try anything for a few minutes before commiting.

With that in mind, I gave King Corn a chance and I think you should too.

It is a witty documentary about two guys in my generation searching for what really is done with the gigantic corn crop that America produces.

It all begins with a analysis of their hair, revealing that they are made of a huge percentage of corn product. I like this movie because they don't bash anyone, as some documentaries can be quick to do. They are kind to all the people they meet and don't appear to really side with anyone on the matters. But they do present the facts and decide what is best to be done for themselves and I loved it.

They are funny, direct, and these use the Fisher Price Little People farmyard for demonstrations.

If you have Netflix, or even if you don't give this one a chance. My local library carries it, and if you still have an actual video store in your area, they probably will too.

Well even if you don't check their website, kingcorn.net

Baking Powder Recipe

I know this is an odd thing to post. Especially as a first recipe, but as we rid our lives of chemicals, little by little, I have come to baking powder.

I had heard that baking powder is not good for you because it contains aluminum. So I promptly threw ours out.

Then I was in a pickle, always substituting soda for powder meant checking online every time I went to make something because I could never remember the conversion. (The conversion is pretty vague...something like you will need 2-3 times less baking soda than powder)

Anyway, I finally decided that there must be a better way.

And lo and behold some blessed person posted an aluminum free recipe for baking powder, thank you!

You will need:
Baking Soda
Corn Starch
Cream of Tarter.

The recipe is very simple For every 2 parts Cream of Tarter, you will need 1 Part of Baking Soda and Corn Starch. I used Tablespoons and made a small amount. But you can make as much or as little as you want. Don't you love the freedom? Throw it in a jar and save it for next time!
After all this you are probably wondering why no aluminum? Check it out here. It may be only trace, but like I said, baby steps to being as chemical free as possible.
